In the Fundraiser Project that we did in Math, we were given information about the client that we had and what he/she needed. The client was an artist and needed our help to let him know how many of watercolor and pastel painting he had to make in order to maximize the profit. There were constraints in this problem: he could only spend $180 on materials and he could not go over creating 16 paintings. We had to come up for a recommendation for how many paintings the client should create while meeting the constraints and maximizing his profit.
In order to obtain the best-possible recommendation for the problem, you must first figure out what you are being asked to do. Then, you must create meanings for the variables x and y, for example in the graph we created, x was watercolor paintings and y was pastel paintings. After that you must create inequalities for the constraints. For example, the inequalities that we created for our graph were y is < or = to 0, x is < or = to 0, 15x + 5y is > or = to 180, and x + y is > or = to 16. Then, you must find the maximum value and the minimum value that meet the constraints. My group didn't get to a recommendation because we got stuck trying to figure out what the feasible region was. We also didn't get to test the vertex of the feasible region.
During this project, we were each assigned a role. Peter Fisher was the Geogebra person, Nidhal Dawood was the Documenter, Erik Lennox was the Facilitator, and I was the Spokesperson. Peter was in charge of making the graph, but he wasn't there that day so Erik took over. Erik also had to job of keeping us on track. Nidhal was in charge of writing all our ideas down, and I was in charge to speak for the group.
As a group, I think that we did a great job in engaging the client, when we didn't understand something or needed help, we would ask the client. Nidhal took really useful notes and she helped figure out what the feasible region was. Erik kept us on track and did a great job with Geogebra, and he also was the one that noticed that we had the wrong feasible region. I think that as the Spokesperson, I put a lot of my ideas out there and gave the group ideas on starting small. My group worked together really well, even though we would sometimes depart and come back together again. Our biggest challenge was figuring out the feasible region, even though we did not overcome it, we did a terrific job putting together out thoughts and opinions in out attempt to ind out the feasible region area. Next time, I think we should take step by step as a group the process in answering the clients question and we shouldn't depart and come together again, so we can all be in the same page. In my role as the Spokesperson, I think that I should have taken more the responsibility in asking the client questions or have questions prepared ahead of time so that I won't get stuck.
